Uniform Expectations

Children at Abel Smith School are expected to take pride in their appearance and their uniform. All clothes and school items should be smart, clean and clearly labelled.

Items with a school logo can be bought from The Uniform Shop.

Nursery and Reception

Nursery and Reception children will need:

  • Early Years Logo book bag (Yellow for Nursery and Red for Reception).
  • Red sweatshirt or cardigan with school logo
  • White polo shirt
  • Smart grey trousers, shorts, skirt or pinafore dress
  • Grey or white socks or  grey or red tights
  • Black school shoes – Shoes must be sensible and securely fit to the foot. This is to facilitate safe walking and playing. If children wear boots in winter these must be black and a pair of indoor shoes must be provided (these can be plimsolls). Boots are not allowed in the summer term.
  • PE Kit – Nursery and Reception children are allowed to wear black jogging bottoms and white T – from home for PE.    They do not need to wear a school PE kit.

Year 1 to Year 6

  • Red logo book bag

P.E. Kit – Year 1 to Year 6

  • Black Shorts
  • Red PE top with white printed logo and sleeve inserts in team colour (Y1 – Y6),
  • Red logo hoodie for colder weather (a school jumper can be worn as an alternative)
  • Black plimsolls for indoor P.E. and trainers for outdoor P.E.
  • Black jogging bottoms in winter
  • Small red logo draw string P.E. bag

Summer Term Only – Nursery – Year 6

  • Red plain sun hats
  • Red checked (gingham) dress
  • Grey shorts

Additional Notes

  • Haircuts must be sensible e.g. no shaved or patterned haircuts, no tramlines.  Hair should be no shorter than a number 2 and not over the eyes or face.
  • All hair must be of a single natural colour.
  • Hair longer than shoulder length must be tied back.
  • Hair accessories should be in school colours e.g. red or black.
  • With the exception of watches, no ‘jewellery’ should be worn. If your child has pierced ears, then only gold or silver coloured studs should be worn.
  • Nail varnish is strictly prohibited.
  • Coats need a loop so that they can be hung on a peg.
  • School book bags – The school uniform shop sells school book bags for all years.  Year 6 children are the only class allowed to bring their own book bag.

Reminders will be sent home if children are not wearing the correct uniform.

All children’s clothing must be clearly marked with their name to avoid confusion and loss.

Uniform Shop

The uniform shop is open on the following dates:

Monday 1st July, 9th September, 7th October, 4th November and 2nd December, from 3pm to 3.30pm in the school dining hall.

The shop will also be open on the inset day, 2nd September, at a time to be confirmed.

As well as running the shop we also process all orders received via school bookbags or handed into the school office every Monday. Please either download this order form or collect one from the school office.

Please either send the completed form via your child’s bookbag, or take it directly to the school office in an envelope with payment. Cheques should be made payable to Abel Smith PFA. If sending cash, please send the correct money. Your order will be processed the following Monday afternoon and sent home with your child.
