The Pupil Premium Grant provides funding for the following reasons:
- Raising the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and closing the gap with their peers; and
- Supporting children and young people with parents in the regular armed forces.
For 2016 - 2017 Abel Smith received £23, 402 in pupil premium money.
At Abel Smith pupil premium funding is used to support children on an individual basis with additional teaching and learning resources to ensure they achieve their academic potential. For example, providing 1:1 teaching sessions, additional support staff in class, staff training to provide precision teaching to meet individual needs in the areas of dyslexia, autism and speech and language difficulties. Where relevant, the money is used to provide access to aspiration opportunities for individual children through subsidising residential and other educational opportunities. The intended effect of this funding is to accelerate pupil progress and raise attainment.
Our data shows that in the past, funding spent on the above has had significant impact on pupils’ attainment and progress. ‘…Pupil Premium funding is used very effectively to minimise any gaps in achievement between different groups of pupils.’ OFSTED 2013
