If you would like your child to attend any of the after school sports clubs, then please speak to someone in the school office. Some of our new clubs operate on a first come, first served basis. If the club is full, your child will be put on the waiting list for next half term.
Our clubs run all your year round so you need to ensure that you have the correct PE kits with you at all times. The correct footwear is trainers for all outdoor sports. Please dress suitably for the weather in plain colours. No football kits are to be worn for any after school or lunchtime sports clubs.
Year 5 & Year 6 Football and Netball Teams
Year 5 and Year 6 meet for training on a Tuesday after school. They are coached by Mr Greene and Miss Debnam. During the Autumn Term, the teams worked hard on playing together and on tactics. we are all really proud of the progress that they made. Unfortunately the football team are yet to win a match, but this is definitely due to bad luck as they have been playing brilliantly. We know that there is a win on the horizon for this team - 2016 is going to be their year!
The Netball team also worked hard on their teamwork and the way that they moved around the court. They enjoyed their first win in October and are ready to win more games in 2016!
Matches are played on a Thursday after school (weather permitting) and will start around 3.30pm.
The matched scheduled for this term are:
28.01.16 = Abel Smith V Bengeo away
04.02.16 = Abel Smith V Christchurch at home
11.02.16 = Abel Smith V Wheatcroft at home (Due to be re-scheduled to allow for parent's evening)

Year 3 and Year 4 Netball Team
Due to the popularity and success of the Year 5 and Year 6 team, Year 3 and Year 4 have started their own club on a Thursday after school. Mrs Williams is their coach and she has been working hard to teach them the basics of the game and some essential skills.
Football (Foundation Sports Years 1 to 4)
Mr Greene and Mr Gill run this club on a Wednesday after school. They are busy training the girls and boys up so that they are ready to play competitively in Year 5 and Year 6. This week they enjoyed learning some new skills and playing a little match against their friends. If your child would like to join this club then please speak to the school office.
Abel Smith have teamed up with the experienced coaches at Russell Hoops to offer basketball to our KS2 children. Year 5 and Year 6 play basketball at lunchtime on a Monday with Coach Pablo. He has been extremely impressed with the skills and commitment of all members, but has noticed some particular talent from our girls!
Year 3 and Year 4 meet on a Thursday afterschool (3.30 to 4.30) with Coach Derek and have been getting to know some ball tricks and new skills as well.
These clubs are extremely popular and very well delivered and we are really impressed with how much the children have learnt since starting. There is some availability at these clubs, so if your child would like to join then please speak to the school office.
We are absolutely thrilled to be able to offer gymnastics as one of our after school clubs. Miss Quinn is our coach and she runs this club on a Monday after school. The children loved their first session and were thrilled to tell me all about the 'teddy bear' rolls and 'forward rolls' that they had been learning.
This club is currently full but we have a waiting list for Spring 2 if your child would like to take part. In the future, we hope to be able to offer this club to other year groups.
We are also thrilled to be able to offer this popular and 'bang on trend' sport as a lunchtime club for Year 1 and Year 2 (Wednesday) and Year 3 and Year 4 (Thursday). The children were full of beans after their first session and enjoyed learning some of the key positions and well as having a go at performing some stunts. There is some availability for this club if your child would like to join.
This club is open to anyone in Year 2 to Year 6. It runs on a Tuesday after school from 3.15 to 4.00. This week I watched the children learning the correct hand position so that they know how to hold their club properly and also how to put the ball with precision!
