We are a Preschool that forms part of the Early Years Foundation Stage of Abel Smith School and we implement the EYFS curriculum and welfare standards within our practice. The ethos of the preschool is to provide an exciting environment for children to learn through play in partnership with their parents and to offer families an inclusive service that takes account of individual needs, promotes equality and values diversity. We have an excellent staff team, highly committed and motivated to childcare and education.
We take children from 2 years 6 months old and until they join either a school nursery or reception class. Our sessions run from 12:30 to 3:30pm Monday to Friday and we ask that children attend at least 2 of the 5 sessions per week. We take children on a “rolling intake” – so whenever a space becomes available – but most places become available in January or September in line with school intake. If you are on the waiting list and you are to be offered one of these places you will normally hear from us 3 months beforehand. Currently the waiting list is prioritised by age (oldest first) and length of time on waiting list, although this is due to be reviewed.
The fees are £15 per session payable half termly. In the term after the Child’s 3rd birthday, government funding can be applied for. This is for up to 15 hours free early education. In some cases (relating to certain benefits, tax credits etc) the free early education funding can be claimed for 2 year olds.
To arrange an appointment with the Preschool Manager to view our setting please contact the Administrator Clare Thomsen via [email protected]
To apply to go on our waiting list please send an email to Clare Thomsen [email protected] with your child’s full name, date of birth and your address and contact details. Please let us know any preference on days required and also whether you are likely to be eligible to claim the 2 year old funding. From here you will receive confirmation that you’ve been added to the list.
Offers of a place come out by email specifying the deadline for a response and clarifying days required. Ideal days cannot always be accommodated. One month notice is required to cancel a place once confirmed. Children do not automatically move from Preschool to Abel Smith Nursery or Reception. A separate online application is required via Herts County Council. If you are registered with a local GP you should automatically receive a reminder about this by post.
